Dedication Digital Processors: Methods in Hardware/Software Co-Desing by Friedrich Mayer-Lindenberg, The evolution of digital technology has resulted in the design of digital processors with increasingly complex capabilities. Intended as an introduction to the subject, this book presents an integrated and accessible approach to the design and implementation of digital processors. "Dedicated Digital Processors emphasizes the common aspects of hardware and software structures, explaining the opportunities provided for developing low-power, high-speed processors and processor networks. Features include: · An introduction to the technological basics of digital computers, including transistor circuits and the properties of current integrated chips. · Discussions on complexity issues such as minimization, the timing and synchronization of computations and techniques used to boost performance in modern high-speed processors. · & presentation of a programmable processor design, including the handling of input and output, interrupt processing and DMA. · A detailed evaluation of standard DSP architectures including up-to-date information on TI 67xx, Analog Devices, Sharc processors and Virtex FPGA (field programmable gate arrays). · VHDL examples and exercises that can be simulated and synthesized with free des provided by FPGA companies. Based on the author s considerable experience in teaching digital systems design and digital signal processing, this book is an excellent reference forgraduate and senior undergraduate students in electronic and computer engineering. Practising engineers and professionals developing DSP applications will appreciate the guidance to designing digital systems.
Network System Design Using Network Processors by Douglas E. Comer, Acknowledged computer networking expert Douglas Comer has authored the first-ever textbook on networking processors. Dr. Comer offers both professionals and advanced students comprehensive instruction on how to design and build network systems using the latest network processor technology. This unique text explains the software and hardware architectures used to implement the Internet, including switches, routers, bridges, NAT boxes, firewalls, intrusion-detection systems and load balancers. Significant Features: Focuses on how to build network systems Discusses the motivation for and use of network processor technologies Provides an overview of network processor architectures Examines programming languages used with network processors and includes tested network processor code Offers course notes and supplemental materials at http: //www.npbook.cs.purdue.
Front end processor - A Front end processor - sometimes referred to as a communications processor, is a device which interfaces a number of peripheral devices (terminals, disk units, printers, tape units) to the host computer. Data is transferred between the host computer and the Front end processor, using a high speed parallel interface. Pentium Compatible Processor - A Pentium-compatible processor is a 32 bit processor computer chip which uses an instruction set that is a superset of the version of the IA-32 instruction set as used by the original Intel Pentium processor (also known as the Classic Pentium). Inter-Processor Interrupt - An Inter-Processor Interrupt (IPI) is a special type of interrupt by which one processor may interrupt another processor in a multiprocessor system. IPIs are typically used to implement a cache coherency synchronization point. Vector processor - A vector processor, or array processor, is a CPU design that is able to run mathematical operations on multiple data elements simultaneously. This is in contrast to a scalar processor which handles one element at a time.
